FED: Delighted Howard trumpets Gas contract win
SYDNEY, August 8 AAP - The securing of a $25 billion contract to supply liquefied naturalgas to China was a gold medal win by Australia's mining industry, Prime Minister JohnHoward said today.
Mr Howard described the "mammoth export contract" as the kind of outcome that wouldunderpin this country's economic strength.
The comments followed his announcement today that Australia's North West Shelf venturewould be the sole supplier of gas to China's first LNG project in Guangdong province.
"This is the kind of outcome that will underpin the economic strength of this country,especially in the Asia Pacific region for years into the future," Mr Howard told reportersin Sydney.
"This is long-term export value for Australia. This demonstrates the great competitivecapacity of this country when companies and governments work together."
He said he was delighted with the contract win.
