STAR SCHOOL TAX REDUCTION DEADLINE IS MAY 31.(CAPITAL REGION)

TROY -- The deadline to apply for the STAR reduction in school taxes is May 31.

STAR is the New York State Tax Relief Program that provides a partial exemption from school taxes for owner-occupied, primary residential properties.

The city assessor's office reports that out of the 10,000 total residential properties in the city of Troy, 6,700 are currently enrolled in the STAR program. Of the remaining 3,300 residential properties, it is estimated that 40 percent may still be eligible to apply for STAR but have not done so. …
