QLD: RM Williams to become patron of Year of the Outback

BRISBANE, Aug 20 AAP - Veteran bushman RM Williams would become patron of Australia's Year
of the Outback, to be celebrated in 2002.

The announcement of Williams' patronage came after the Queensland and the federal
governments endorsed the idea of a national Year of the Outback, which aims to celebrate the
diversity of rural and regional Australia.

Queensland Primary Industries Minister Henry Palaszczuk said today the idea for the Year of
the Outback came from former state National Party treasurer Bruce Campbell.

RM Williams, head of the RM Williams' clothing and footwear empire and founding member of
the Stockman's Hall of Fame, was approached several weeks ago to become patron of the
celebratory year.
